Itinerary
After a flight from Addis to Hawassa, our driver will meet us at the airport, and we’ll drive 121 km to Yirgacheffe. After a lunch break, we’ll head to the village to meet local coffee farm owners.
Your journey begins in Hawassa, following the scenic route along the Great Rift Valley toward the renowned coffee region of Yirgacheffe. Ethiopia, often considered the birthplace of coffee, has a rich legend that traces the discovery of the coffee plant back to the 9th-century goatherd, Kaldi, in the region of Kaffa, after observing the energizing effect it had on his goats.
Yirgacheffe is a revered destination for coffee enthusiasts, offering a wide array of vibrant and complex flavors.
During the coffee tour, you’ll gain insights into every aspect of coffee cultivation from planting and growing to processing learning how the bean goes from seed to cup. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage with the local Gedeo people and share in their experiences.
Following the coffee tour, we’ll visit the UNESCO-listed Gedeo Cultural Landscape. This remarkable area of agroforestry, situated along the eastern edge of the Ethiopian Rift, is home to the Gedeo people, whose traditional knowledge has enabled them to sustainably cultivate the land. The forest is not only vital for agriculture but also holds deep cultural significance, being used for rituals tied to the Gedeo religion.
Afterward, we’ll return to Hawassa (121 km) for an overnight stay at your choice of accommodations: Haile Resort, Lewi Resort, or Lake View. Dinner can be enjoyed either at the hotel or a local restaurant.
Early in the morning, before our flight, we’ll take a city tour of Hawassa. We’ll visit Love Lake, explore the fish market, and enjoy a coffee at the popular Dukamo Coffee shop. Afterward, we’ll head to the airport for your departure, concluding the tour.
