Gondar: The Camelot of Africa

Description

Known as the “Camelot of Africa,” Gondar is famous for its magnificent castles and palaces that date back to the 17th century. The Royal Enclosure, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to several well-preserved castles that were built by Emperor Fasilides and his successors. The city’s rich history as a former imperial capital is reflected in its impressive architecture, including the Church of Debre Berhan Selassie, known for its beautiful frescoes and unique ceiling paintings of angel faces. Gondar also serves as a gateway to the Simien Mountains, making it a great base for further exploration of Ethiopia’s northern region.
